Consumer and Sensory Science

The Consumer and Sensory Sciences Department offers an array of services to enable clients to specify, monitor and control product attributes and understand consumer perceptions, preferences and attitudes to support product development and improvement programmes.

The Department is structured across several sections focussed on providing analysis and testing services, training, method and application innovation and consumer insights. The majority of the Department’s work is contract related funded by clients from across the agri-food supply chain.

Position

  • To lead and develop Campden BRI’s Consumer and Sensory Sciences Business Unit as a centre of consumer and sensory science excellence among relevant product development, science and technology communities. A key part of the role will be business development with a focus on ensuring that the department remains profitable and efficient.
  • To manage the financial planning and budgets for the unit along with people and equipment resource whilst promoting a positive culture in which the core values are embedded and exhibited in all we do.
  • The role will also require Direct technical delivery and internal/external ambassadorship

Requirements

  • Degree in relevant science or technology-based subject.
  • Renowned expert in C&SS application
  •  An experienced leader, highly competent in strategy development, people skills change and delivery management, as well as the commercial aspects of running a service-based organisation. 
  • Highly scientific and technical competence in the areas relevant to the business area.
  • Proven competence in managing timely and cost-effective delivery of technical services/research outputs. 
  • A proven influencer with outstanding collaborative people skills and highly developed specialist knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the needs of the food and related industries with the ability to use this to influence and direct substantial business strategy.
  • Well-developed communication skills with a track record of successful team leadership and project procurement and management.
