Tesco Advanced Bakery Managers' Training Programme
Campden BRI case study
Tesco Stores embarked on a radical and ambitious training programme across its 720 in-store bakeries in 2007. Structured to meet the needs of new starters through to experienced managers, the programme is underpinning craft skills, developing technical knowledge and driving quality in all of its bakeries.
Campden BRI is proud to be Tesco's partner of choice in delivering this bakery masterclass, designed for the managers of Tesco's 720 scratch, and bake-off bakeries. Commenting on Campden BRI's training provision, with over 39 courses successfully delivered, Mike Coslett, Tesco's Instore Bakery Operations Manager said:
"The course is a key element within our plan to put Quality first. It's a significant investment in people used to perfect craft skills and provide a greater technical understanding of the things that make a difference. The Campden team and the excellent facilities within the test bakery provide a safe and creative learning environment that allows us to practice ahead of our return to store."
Direct feedback from delegates has been equally gratifying. Alan Powell, a Tesco Bakery Manager from Northwich commented "Thank you for such a fantastic course. I've been a Bakery Manager for the past 30 years and never learnt so much from a course. You all put so much effort into teaching us, it was awesome!".
The 3–day Bakery Managers, and 1 day Bake–off courses were developed by working closely with Tesco's head-office team to ensure that the requirements of delegates and, ultimately, consumers are met. It is specifically designed to improve both the technical knowledge and practical skills of the participants.
Campden BRI's Bakery Technology Manager, Paul Catterall, commented "Our well equipped training bakery, our experience of training at all levels in the baking industry, and our ability to tailor training to meet client needs made us the ideal partner for Tesco – and the success of the partnership demonstrates our commitment to the practical application of technical excellence".
