Benefits of attending

Feed safety has to be ensured at all stages of the food and feed chain including in food manufacturing. Food business organisations producing feed materials as co-products have to implement feed safety controls relevant to the required safety of the products, including HACCP based systems. Feed safety control measures are typically integrated into good practice [e.g. good manufacturing practice (GMP) and good hygiene practice (GHP)]. GMP relates to the control and sustainability of operations and GHP addresses the conditions and measures to ensure safety of products. In hazard analysis (HACCP) based safety management systems many GHPs are likely to be prerequisite programmes (PRPs). However, where hazard analysis identifies significant hazards that need to be controlled by targeted preventative measures they may be categorised as critical control points (CCPs). This course provides an understanding of typical hazards and their cause, control measures based on accepted good practice and feed safety management within a HACCP context. Special reference will be made to microbiological and chemical contaminants and the identification, evaluation and control of hazards significant for feed safety. The focus is on:

  • Feed materials as co-products in food business operations, and
  • Feed safety management in a hazard analysis context (PRPs and CCPs).

The course will benefit those responsible for establishing and implementing food and feed safety control measures and those assuring compliance with adopted practices, and those wishing to obtain a better understanding of feed safety systems in food business operations
