Food & Drink Science Team

Our Food & Drink Science time look at the physical properties of food, such as colour, structure, texture, rheology and interfacial properties and composition. We have a range of instrumental methods for objectively characterising and measuring food structure and physical properties. These are useful for applications such as new product development, benchmarking, reformulation and specification.


You will lead and develop projects with key food manufacturing focused clients, both internal and external.  Through client contact & extensive research develop an understanding of individual clients needs to provide tailored and robust research to provide scientific solutions to demanding challenges. Generation of project proposals, management of projects and delivering the required outputs. The role will require contact with a broad range of clients (including industry, government and academia), from practical through to senior managerial.

 

You will provide authoritative advice, deploy experience, knowledge and detailed understanding of fundamental food science to design and execute problem solving and research projects for clients

 

This role will involve a significant amount of analysis on behalf of clients, across a wide range of techniques.


Position

  • Manage and undertake work on behalf of clients
  • Write reports for contract and research projects 
  • Provide advice to clients
  • Identify new business opportunities
  • Contribute to idea generation for food and beverage science and research
  • Generate proposals for client work
  • Participate in conducting training both scheduled and tailor made

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in an R&D, or similar, role for a food or ingredients manufacturer
  • A degree in food science/ technology or similar.
  • A PhD in food science/chemical engineering/similar with a focus on development of analytical methods, experimental design, execution, statistical analysis, scientific writing, project management, and presenting at conferences.
  • Significant knowledge of food science and technology and analysis of physical properties such as rheology, texture, structure and thermal properties is essential
  • Extensive knowledge of, and experience with, functionality of emulsifiers, proteins, starches and hydrocolloids
  • Experience in using instrumental techniques to investigate raw materials or product properties.
  • Experience in data analysis from the above and familiarity with statistical analysis techniques required.
  • Project management skills.
