Two years of Campden Wine Services at Guildford – supporting growth of the UK wine industry

7 August 2026 | Greg Dunn, Wine Technical Manager

Two years after opening the doors of the Campden Wine Services at Guildford, the team is reflecting on its impact and sharing initiatives designed to accelerate the growth and technical capability of the UK wine sector.

The Guildford facility represented a significant investment for us to provide world-class analytical and technical support for the UK’s rapidly expanding wine industry. Since its launch, the laboratory has worked closely with wineries and vineyards across the country, delivering specialist testing, scientific expertise, and practical advice to help producers improve wine quality, manage risk, and drive innovation.

During its first two years of operation, the Wine Services team has conducted over 50,000 analytical tests, demonstrating the laboratory’s pivotal role in supporting the industry’s growth and helping producers make confident, data-driven winemaking decisions.

As the UK wine sector continues to grow in scale, sophistication, and international recognition, the team at Guildford recently undertook a strategic review of its services to ensure they remain aligned with the evolving needs of producers.

Building on these insights, Campden BRI is introducing two exciting new initiatives designed to make technical expertise, training, and analytical services more accessible than ever to UK wineries and vineyards. These are:

  1. A new membership category for UK wineries and vineyards
  2. A more flexible approach to analytical testing

Industry feedback

As part of reflecting on nearly two years of operations at the Guildford facility, the Wine Services team invited customers to share their experiences of working with the laboratory and the impact it has had on their businesses.

Campden BRI provide industry leading services in analysis of beers, wines, and spirits. The world class expertise and advice is an invaluable resource to any due diligence, quality, and safety programme. Greg and Bob are always looking to develop their services to ensure they remain at the highest standards, with a client centred approach.

Flexible approach to analytical testing

Alongside the new membership category, we also introduced a revised schedule of analytical testing services, designed to give wineries and vineyards greater flexibility and control.

The updated approach allows producers to pick and mix testing options based on their specific production needs, ensuring that analysis is carried out only when required.

This flexible model helps ensure that testing remains fit for purpose, scientifically robust, and cost-effective for producers at every stage of growth.

By tailoring testing packages to individual producers, Campden BRI aims to help wineries optimise quality, manage production challenges, and make more informed technical decisions.
