Benefits of attending

This half day course provides a valuable introduction to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries food & drink legislation and other relevant information in relation to export to this region. The course’s objective is to deliver a general understanding on the requirements for food and drink products that are meant to be produced for the GCC market, cement the delegates knowledge and understanding in food and drink legislation in the GCC, as well as their understanding and knowledge of relevant food and drink labelling legislation. It is designed for those planning to export their products to the GCC, those wanting a broad overview of the practicalities of food legislation in the GCC, and those wanting to be aware of the most up to date legislation in the GCC following the wide range of GSO standards updates in 2021 and ongoing changes to date.

The course will be delivered live online over the course of one morning (0900 - 1330 hours), participants will be sent log in details for a Microsoft Teams session.

  • Introduction to GCC Standardization Organization (GSO)
  • General labelling requirements
  • Nutritional information requirements & nutrition and health claims
  • Halal requirements
  • Product specific standards
  • National authorities in each GCC country
  • Main GSO standards (such as additives & flavourings, expiration dates, ethanol limits, etc.)
  • Examples and discussion held throughout the session

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course delegates will:

  • Be aware how legislation is enforced in the GCC
  • Gain an understanding of the practical implications of food law for their business should they wish to export to the GCC
  • Be able to access current legislative information in the GCC
  • Be able to find the needed references from the national authorities in the GCC
  • Be able to identify non compliances on a label destined to the GCC
  • Gain an understanding on how to formulate and review products destined to the GCC
