Obtain the knowledge and skills to design, implement, verify and critically evaluate allergen management systems integrated with HACCP principles. This interactive course uses case studies, group exercises and scenario-based learning to develop advanced competencies in allergen risk management.
This RSPH certificated Level 4 course includes 6 half day sessions of intensive tutor-led training run online, with the option of taking an online exam after the course. As this is not an introductory course, it is suitable only for participants with an existing understanding of allergen management and HACCP principles.
- It is a requirement that delegates have previously successfully completed an Intermediate (Level 3) Allergen Management and HACCP training course, or equivalent.
- Due to the nature of the course, an advanced level of English reading, verbal and comprehension skills is required.
- The course will be run online over 6 half day sessions (from 0845 - 1315 hours on 16, 18, 20, 23, 25 and 27 November 2026), there will also be individual evening work to complete (approximately one hour per evening).

- Understanding leadership roles and responsibilities for effective allergen management
- Prerequisite programmes for allergen control
- Planning and implementing an effective allergen management system
- Validation, verification and review of allergen management systems
- Development of crisis management and emergency response for allergen incidents
- Optional online exam (RSPH Level 4 Award in Food Allergen Management Systems takes place after the course. The exam fee is included in the cost of the course.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, based upon a given scenario, delegates will be able to:
- Correctly explain the global and national role of allergen management, including Codex Alimentarius principles, international standards and regulatory frameworks.
- Understand leadership responsibilities, including the role and competencies of an Allergen Management Team Leader and team members.
- Explain the importance of prerequisite programmes, including advanced cleaning validation, segregation, supplier assurance and product considerations.
- Plan how to develop and implement an effective allergen management system appropriate to a given food industry sector.
- Apply advanced allergen risk assessment techniques and identify appropriate control measures to prevent cross-contact.
- Evaluate how allergen management can be effectively embedded within organisational culture.
- Compare the roles of validation, verification and review, and explain how they are applied within allergen management systems.
- Develop appropriate crisis management and emergency response strategies for allergen incidents.
- Critically evaluate existing allergen management systems within their organisation.
