Consider crossflow microfiltration for beer filtration

• membrane technique, sometimes preceded by centrifugation
• most commonly polymeric membranes, possibly ceramic
• process economics do not favour kieselguhr plant replacement
  • unless new plant or kieselguhr plant worn out
• the compact plant reduces water requirement
  • at least 15% less

Centrifugation upstream reduces filter aid requirement

• capital and operating costs of centrifuge
• enables finer grade filter aids to be employed
  • product quality benefit

Consider regenerable filter aids

• various have been developed
• added process but some conventional filters will perform the primary process
